👋 I’m Vinamrata

I’m a coach, writer, and builder utilizing storytelling to help others find belonging.

My work unpacks the messiness of our career and coming-of-age journey to help others (especially women and people of color) feel empowered and seen in their journey of self-discovery.

My (condensed) life story

I’m a third culture kid. I grew up across seven very different places: New Delhi in India, Jeddhah in Saudi Arabia, New Plymouth in New Zealand, and across the US (NYC and Houston).

I’m so grateful to grow up exposed to so many cultures and people, growing my empathy muscles. But assimilation wasn’t easy. I often felt like a chameleon, constantly negotiating my identity. Yet I also knew that my family was lucky to have achieved the “American Dream,” as my parents re-established themselves as practicing physicians. I wanted to turn this challenge into an opportunity.

So, at sixteen, I decided to focus my career on impact, specifically doing something that would empower underserved communities. But through what?

At Stanford, I discovered CS, excited by my love for building and tech’s potential to impact people’s lives at scale. So, I became a CS major. I fell into product management, attracted to its focus on solving customer problems and leading people. After getting into the APM program at Google, I had a 7+ year product career across Google, Landis, Match Group, Thumbtack, and Propel. In my career, I have worked on:

  • Every kind of product (consumer, B2B2C, growth, monetization)

  • Across various roles (IC to people management)

  • In various environments (20 person startup to a global conglomerate)

In 2023, I went on a sabbatical to evaluate what I wanted in this next chapter of my career. During that time, I experimented with lots of projects (like a defunct YouTube channel) while healing from overachievement. I also had an awakening around my purpose: storytelling.

During my childhood, stories were my lifeline to understand my new world, as well as express the confusing emotions of assimilating while coming-of-age. It makes me feel connected to myself and others.

Now, I want to harness the power of storytelling with my love for building to do work that helps people find belonging. I want to share emotional truths about my own experience as well as helping others unpack and reframe the stories they tell about themselves and their products.

Currently, I’m exercising this through:

  • Coaching PMs on career transitions

  • Publishing essays on my blog “The Next Chapter”

  • Screenwriting, especially pilots & short films. I’d love to write, produce, and direct an original short someday!

Stay in touch.

I sometimes write and share words on my next chapter.
